Former English and Scottish Premier League defender Alex Bruce has named one man that the Bhoys need to be chasing when in the summer transfer window.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider over the weekend, the 35-year-old stated that coming north of the border would be a great way to get his career back on track:

“When he was at Liverpool people had high hopes for him and when he signed for Bournemouth he had a couple of good games. It raised a few eyebrows to say: ‘Who’s this kid?’ He’s gone off the boil and he needs to get his career up and running again. He needs to start playing again so if he can get that opportunity at a big club like Celtic… He’s a player I’m sure Celtic would be interested in if they can get him”

All I’ve got to say on the matter, is thank goodness we wouldn’t be paying a fee for him if the club does decide to go down this road. Ibe’s contract at AFC Bournemouth is set to expire at the end of the season and there’s a pretty big indicator as to why, he just hasn’t been producing in the final third.

Since moving to the South Coast, he has made 92 appearances and in that time, he has only contributed five goals and nine assists in that time, which quite frankly just isn’t a very good return, and with only two appearances so far this season, it’s clear that his future is going to lie elsewhere.

Would you be in favour of a move for Ibe?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Now whilst the competition in the Scottish Premier League won’t be anywhere as tough as it would be in the English one, thus meaning he should be able to achieve a little bit more success, I don’t think there’s a good enough starting point for him to make the career change that someone like Scott Sinclair managed to achieve when he made the move up north.

At least on a free contract you could make the case it’s a very low-risk move to be making, but if we are restricting ourselves to free transfers, surely there must be better options out there for us to pursue?
