Report: Celtic set for £1.5m transfer battle with Rangers and Premier League duo

|

According to a report in The Scottish Sun, Celtic look set to battle it out with city rivals Rangers for the signature of English youngster Jack Tucker.

Tucker was the subject of a £1m bid from Brentford in January but this was rejected by the Gills as they have the 20-year-old tied down on a long term contract until 2023.

The centre-half is said in the article to be valued around the £1.5m mark, however, with both sides of the Glasgow divide said to be interested plus Premier League sides Aston Villa and West Ham sniffing about, the fee could rise if there is a bidding war for the League 1 player.

Celtic could do with extra bodies in the heart of defence especially if Neil Lennon plans to play with three centre-halves next season too, it would seem an obvious formation to keep the faith with given that he has won every game in 2020 whilst employing it.

Is centre-half a priority in the summer for Lennon?

Yes

No

No

As well as his first choice threesome, Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed are both capable of playing at the back, however, Lennon would want to secure specialist back-up especially with Kristoffer Ajer likely to attract attention if he continues his current form.

Ajer is very much in the mould of a young Virgil van Dijk, capable of dictating play from the back, chipping in with a goal but also still young enough to make the odd rash decision which he will hopefully eradicate with experience to become a top class defender.

As with most transfer rumours, when both Glasgow sides are linked with the same player it is usually to either increase their transfer fee or to make the other put in a bid, Turner is unlikely to be the sort of player that would solve Rangers recent defensive problems and Gerard Pique is out of their price range, his wife Shakira might be available though, at least she has better mobility than that displayed by Nikola Katic at the weekend….
