Celtic have been dealt a transfer blow as top target Cho gue-Sung has reportedly been the subject of a $5m (£4.1m) bid from MLS side Minnesota United.

Minnesota manager, former Everton star Adrian Heath, has pinpointed the South Korean star as a priority target and was ‘fascinated’ with gue-Sung’s performances in the Qatar World Cup finals.

According to Sports Chosun, an official from the transfer market has claimed, “Minnesota is putting its life and death on the recruitment of Cho Kyu-sung.

“I know that the manager (Adrian Heath), who was an Everton legend, asked the club to bring Cho Kyu-sung unconditionally.

“I gave you an unconventional offer to get it.”

gue-Sung is proving to be an in-demand striker as German side Mainz is also credited with an interest in the forward.

What makes the offer ‘unconventional’ is that Minnesota are also willing to grant the Korean green-card status and a higher salary if he agrees to join the club and has also been promised that he will be supported in his goal of playing in Europe at some point in his career.

The Hoops were thought to be in pole position to sign gue-Sung after reports emerged that the Glasgow giants had outbid Mainz just 48 hours ago. [Football Scotland]

Now it is down to the player and whether or not he wants to pursue his European dream now and also whether Celtic are willing to match or exceed the US bid.

The next couple of days will be very interesting indeed.
