Celtic aren’t interested in making a move for Bosnian defender Samir Memisevic this week, according to The Scottish Sun.

Bosnian outlet Oslobodenje had claimed that the Hoops were eyeing up making a late transfer window move for the 25-year-old international, but sources closer to home appear to have refuted the suggestion.

Memisevic plays in Eredivisie with Groningen, which has been a happy transfer hunting ground for Celtic in the past.

They were the team that Celtic signed powerful defender Virgil van Dijk from, a player who recently became the most expensive defender in the world.

The Bosnian is a player with less potential than van Dijk had, but with excellent experience in his homeland and with Groningen, there’s no doubting that signing the player would have gone a long way to easing supporters’ concerns at the state of the Hoops defence.

We’re crying out for a strong, powerful defender to come in an immediately compete with Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic for first-team places, especially if Dedryck Boyata ends up leaving the club this week.

That player does not appear to appear to Memisevic, so unfortunately we’ll have to remain patient and see what targets come up as a crucial week begins for the club on and off the field.
