Former Rangers defender, Alan Hutton, believes that Ryan Christie has the potential to do the damage against his old club in the Betfred League Cup final on Sunday.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton waxed lyrical about the Hoops attacker and highlighted just how important he is to Celtic.

Hutton said of Christie’s remarkable season so far:

“He’s had an unbelievable season, he’s just going from strength to strength”.

“I watched the game against Ross County and again, just intelligent”.

“Intelligent movement, intelligent runs, always seems to be in the right place at the right time, everything seems to flow through him”.

“He’s really one of the top players for Celtic at the moment and it’s going to be, him and Forrest, the ones we (Rangers) are going to have to look out for at the weekend”.

Christie has revelled in leading the Bhoys’ attack in the absence of Odsonne Edouard and netted yet again against Hamilton in the nail biting 2-1 win on Wednesday night.

With 16 goals and 10 assists, Christie is leading the way in Celtic’s goalscoring charts and has produced the best return of his career with not even a third of the domestic campaign completed.

Such has been Christie’s form that he has forced Olivier Ntcham into being a bit part player this season, the Frenchman being used to rest Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Christie himself.

After signing from Inverness Caledonian Thistle for £500k, Christie initially looked to be struggling with the demands of playing for such a big club but the last 18 months has seen him develop into one of the first names on the team sheet for both club and country.

Even if Edouard is pronounced fit to face Rangers, the unstoppable Christie will, as Hutton says, be the man to watch as he continues to tear up Scottish football on a weekly basis with no signs of him letting up any time soon.
