Defender Jeffrey Bruma has claimed he has no knowledge of a potential move to Celtic this summer, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

German newspaper Bild reported on Monday night that the Hoops were preparing a £7m offer for the 6ft 2in Dutch international, in a move that would surely delight the vast majority of Celtic supporters.

However, it appears expectations will have to be tempered given new quotes that have emerged from the player himself.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I have read about Celtic’s interest in me. But nobody has spoken about it, either with me or with my agent. I am under contract with Wolfsburg, and I don’t want to talk a lot about my future.”

At face value, the move does appear to make some amount of sense given that both he and Lee Congerton worked together while they were both at German side Hamburg.

However, £7m is still a lot of money for Celtic, especially in a year that we did not qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stages.

The fact Bruma is distancing himself isn’t a great sign that this is any more than paper talk.

Heading into the last week of the transfer window, we’ll soon find out what the club have planned with the defensive positions.
