As Celtic look to continue to find targets for the much maligned rebuild, there was continued optimism, from Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou at least, that the Hoops talismanic striker Odsonne Edouard could be persuaded to stay at the club.

Speaking at his press conference last week, the Hoops gaffer said, “I will do what’s best for the club. If that means players depart, they’ll depart.

“If it means they stay, they stay.  But I won’t let anyone use the club as a vehicle for their own purposes.

“When the time comes for it to end, as it will for all of us, hopefully we leave some sort of legacy.

“But I won’t let anyone, player or staff, to serve themselves and put their personal interests ahead.

“So, yes, there are discussions I will have with players over the coming weeks.  But I can assure you that whoever does stay will be committed to this club.”

With Edouard’s return to pre season after being snubbed by France for the upcoming Olympics, the opportunity is there for Postecoglou to make his move to tempt Edouard to stay and sign a contract extension, but he better be quick.

Reports from London suggest Arsenal are ready to pounce after  Brendan Rodgers‘ Leicester City pulled the plug on the deal just over a week ago, and the suggestion is that with the Gunners looking to replace the expected outgoings of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Edouard is seen as the ideal man to step in as a replacement.
