Despite stopping the recent trend of bad results with a win against Partick Thistle on Saturday, serious question marks were again raised about the state of the Celtic defence after conceding another preventable goal.

The Hoops ultimately showed their class to defeat the Scottish Championship side and progress to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup, but didn’t raise their game to secure the victory until the home side had equalised.

Every goal Celtic concede right now seems to see spark an inquest, but it’s the manner of the goals conceded that people have an issue with and not simply the fact we are letting the odd goal in.

At the heart of the criticism on Saturday was Jack Hendry, who failed to attempt to block the shot that ultimately went past Scott Bain.

Even the most patient would concede he’s had a difficult start to the season and many are now questioning his long-term future in the Celtic first-team squad.

Of the respondents to a poll we published at the weekend, a 68% majority believe he doesn’t have that first-team future which, if nothing else, highlights the lack of faith plenty of supporters have in the 23-year-old.

Can he turn things around as we get deeper into the season or will the club make a quality signing to replace him?
