Rodgers boosted by return of Celtic star against Valencia

|

Brendan Rodgers can again call upon the services of central defender Jozo Simunovic tonight after he missed out on Celtic’s trip to Kilmarnock at the weekend, as reported by The Daily Record.

Simunovic has been the manager’s preferred option alongside Dedryck Boyata in Filip Benkovic’s absence, but missed out on the visit to Rugby Park because of the artificial surface in place.

Benkovic remains part of a lengthy injury list that includes Kieran Tierney, Olivier Ntcham, Anthony Ralston, Tom Rogic, Eboue Kouassi and Daniel Arzani.

Tierney is nearing a first-team return but did not travel with the squad to Spain to face Valencia in UEFA Europa League action.

The Record report that he is in line to feature during Sunday’s clash at home to Motherwell, which is incredibly good news.

The Hoops will need Simunovic and company at their very best in defence tonight, with the home side expected to mount serious attacking pressure throughout the 90 minutes.

Already 2-0 down from the first leg, the hopes of progression to the last 16 of the competition are tiny, but fans are hoping that Celtic can at least produce a performance to take some pride from.
