Brendan Rodgers has backed youngster Armstrong Okoflex to make an impact at Celtic, after making the switch from Arsenal earlier this month.

The 16-year-old signed officially on a three-year deal at the start of September after rejecting a scholarship deal with the Gunners, training at Lennoxtown since July.

Now Rodgers has hinted he will get a chance to impress in the Celtic side after adapting well to life at the club.

Speaking in this week’s Celtic View, the Hoops boss said:

I’ve seen a lot of Armstrong and I can see that he’s a very talented boy.

The job for Armstrong, like it is for all really talented players, is making that transition from being a talent to being a top professional.

He’s come here with a view of hopefully doing that. He’s at a club where he’s going to get an opportunity. You can see his qualities and his talents.

It’s not easy, he’s only a 16-year-old boy moving up from London.

But he’s adapted really well which is good to see and hopefully he’ll be able to play some games at some point soon.

That will be another nice, exciting step for him.

When he appeared for Arsenal’s U18s side he played in attacked, primarily on the wing, although on occasion played through the middle soon.

The youngster revealed upon signing that it was Rodgers’ history with developing Raheem Sterling that convinced him to make the switch to Glasgow, so he clearly has big ambition.

The manager has shown he isn’t afraid to give young players their chance, so hopefully we’ll see Okoflex progress and eventually make his first-team debut sooner rather than later.
