Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to see his first-team squad strengthened in the January transfer window, in time for the Hoops’ UEFA Europa League clashes next February.

While saluting the achievement of his players to win nine points across the six Group B matches in the competition, Rodgers admitted his players needed help with recruitment when the window opens next month.

As quoted by The Herald, the Celtic boss said:

There are still lots of areas we can improve on but for where the players were from when I first came in to being able to finish above a team like Leipzig shows their determination and progression. It’s great for us to be in the last 32.

I hope we’ll be stronger. We are a squad that needs all our best players available. There’s also a window to go through in January so I would hope when the draw is made we’ll be fresher and stronger because I thought we looked a tad leggy at times this evening.

Rodgers was an outspoken critic of the Hoops’ recruitment policy in the last transfer window so all eyes will be on club officials like Peter Lawwell to see if they can deliver what the manager needs.

With Celtic potentially losing Dedryck Boyata, a defensive signing will likely be the priority, although reinforcements are needed at right-back, on the wings and in support of Odsonne Edouard too.

It’s unlikely the club will be able to nail the full wishlist of supporters, but fans are desperate to see a bit of ambition in the transfer market and first-team quality players arrive in Glasgow.

Can the recruitment team deliver?
