Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said his players displayed the mentality of champions after coming back to beat Rangers 3-2 despite being reduced to ten-men at Ibrox.

Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele had already replied to goals from Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias before centre-back Jozo Simunovic was dismissed just ahead of the hour-mark.

But substitute Odsonne Edouard then secured victory midway through the second period as the visitors moved nine points clear at the top.

“I think the players today showed their quality and that real champion mentality,” Rodgers told BBC Scotland. “It’s a big step for us to go nine points clear with a game in hand, but we still have a lot of work to do.

“But an absolutely brilliant win and a great day for the supporters. I thought we thoroughly deserved to win,” he added. “We made some mistakes in the first half defensively and went behind. But I thought once we played our football and played through them, then we created opportunities.”
