Brendan Rodgers believes the English transfer window closing early this year can serve as an advantage to Celtic, which the club will look to leverage of the next few weeks.

The window in England closes on August 9th after clubs voted to ensure that permanent transfers were in place before the start of the league season, while the Scottish champions have until August 31st to add players to the squad.

The Hoops boss believes it’s something that could be important in terms of recruitment.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

There’s no doubt for me looking from the outside in that it’s a hindrance to the teams in the Premier League.

But for teams up here there is maybe an opportunity over a 2-3 week period where there’s the possibility of being able to bring other players in.

That’s something we’ll look at later in the window.

It all means that players like Patrick Roberts have less than a week to sort out a transfer move to another club in the English top-flight and there’s no sense that he is set for an imminent move.

If he is stuck on the fringes of the City squad after August 9th, it would put Celtic in pole position to finally sign him on a permanent basis.

There are many other players of quality on the fringes of English squads that could do a job in the Scottish Premiership too.

Time will tell whether Celtic can use the date disparity to their advantage, but it could be an exciting final few weeks of the transfer window.

Do you think Celtic can make the signings we need before the end of the window? Let us know in the comments…
