Brendan Rodgers singled out Odsonne Edouard for praise after yesterday’s convincing 4-2 win over Hibernian at Celtic Park, with the striker banging in two of the goals on the afternoon.

All eyes have been on the French talent after his record breaking move from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, with his form fluctuating between good and bad for the majority of the season so far.

In August and September he went nine matches without finding the back of the net.

Against Hibs though he found the finishing touch, scoring his seventh and eight goals of the season.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers said of the striker:

He’s a top-class player. He’s played out of position at times, so he’s had to forfeit a little bit for the team. But if you look at his stats when he plays as striker, he’s a goalscorer.

He’s different to Leigh, and Moussa was for us, but he’s a top talent. He could have had three or four goals today.

The youngster has now scored four goals in his last three matches, cementing his place in the side as the club’s number one forward.

With Rodgers apparently committing to playing him up front in those comments, hopefully we’ll see him bang in many more goals as the season goes on.

There are huge matches against Leipzig and Hearts over the next seven days and getting something out of those matches relies upon the player being clinical in front of goal.

With public backing from the manager, there’s nothing stopping him extending his rich vein of form.
