Substitute Leigh Griffiths struck a vital late winner for leaders Celtic against Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium.

The 27-year-old marksman despatched a fine 25-yard free-kick into the top corner with twelve minutes remaining to extend the visitors’ record undefeated domestic run into a 64th game.

Fellow replacement Olivier Ntcham was then only denied by an upright – but the hosts were always strong and determined opponents.

David Keillor-Dunn hoisted over early for them after Michael Gardyne, who’d already forced Craig Gordon to race off his line, intercepted a pass.

However, Callum McGregor then appeared to be clipped by Christopher Routis after breaking inside the opposite area.

Goalkeeper Aaron McCarey next had to be alert to prevent Moussa Dembele taking advantage of Kieran Tierney’s forward delivery, while Mikael Lustig went close from McGregor’s inswinging corner soon after the break.

Celtic striker Dembele finally had a first direct effort on target gathered by McCarey after further decent work by McGregor – but almost an hour of action had already been completed.

But Griffiths then swept home a terrific 25-yard free-kick after a foul on Stuart Armstrong as the final ten minutes of the contest approached.

Fellow substitute Ntcham was in turn only denied by the woodwork from the edge of the area, with Scott Sinclair dragging another shot wide before late handball claims against Dedryck Boyata were ignored.
