The amount of Celtic transfer news being banded about this summer has been unreal.

Although the speculation has died down somewhat now that the season has kicked off, Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he would like to add another two players to the current first-team squad before the end of the month.

Many fans think that the positions in question would be centre-back and defensive midfielder.

Yes, we have added Moritz Jenz, but it is thought a left-sided centre-back is an area of the team that the Celtic boss could be looking at this summer.

But a report from Russian media outlet Sport Express has claimed that Celtic turned down the chance to sign Montenegro international winger Sejad Hakshabanovic.

The 28-cap wide man was apparently offered to the club by Rubin Kazan and the report claims the Hoops abandoned the transfer due to the ongoing situation in Russia and problems completing  monetary transactions.

But did we really need him?

The great thing about our squad is we have very good strength in depth. In those left-wing positions, we have Daizen Maeda, Jota and Mikey Johnston.

If there was issues with injury, Liel Abada and James Forrest can also slot into those positions if required.

Unless, of course, there was the idea to play him just behind Kyogo but the competition in that area is fierce with Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate.

I’m all for signing quality players, of course I am, but not at the expense of creating an imbalance in the team.

This leads me to ask, was there really any legs in this at all or is this a paper talk to get the player’s name out there to engineer a move?

What a cynic I am.
