Former Celtic attacker Georgios Samaras has hung up his playing boots to focus on an off the pitch role at OFI Crete, according to reports in Greece.

The Hoops hero has been without a club since leaving Turkish side Samunspor in the summer and has apparently called time on his playing career.

He scored 74 goals for Celtic in a six-and-a-half year career in green and white, scoring memorable goals in the UEFA Champions League and at Ibrox.

Consistency was a real problem in his game but on his day he delighted supporters and devastated defences across the country.

He was crucial in helping the team qualify for the last 16 of the 2012/13 Champions League, with his last-minute winner against Spartak Moscow a massive highlight of the modern Celtic era.

Fans have taken to Twitter over the last 24 hours to pay tribute to the man…
