Scotland international’s future no longer at Celtic claims pundit after recent transfer news

Former Rangers defender, Alan Hutton, has claimed that Jack Hendry’s loan move to Melbourne City marks the end of his Parkhead career added to his lack of game time this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, the retired Scotland international was surprised at his choice of destination given his career aspirations.

So what has Hutton said?

When asked for his opinion on Hendry’s move to Australia, Hutton said:

“There is a good player in there”.

“He has not had the best of times since he has come to Celtic. He has not played a lot. He has not been given the opportunity. I do not see his future being at Celtic, so it is a case of going away and working hard and getting back to the level he was at”.

“His ambitions will be to play at a high level in Scotland so the move does surprise me but perhaps he wants to try something new and see where it takes him”.

So is Hutton correct?

Hendry was one of the highest rated youngsters in Scottish football when Brendan Rodgers paid £1.5m to secure his services from Dundee in 2018 but he failed to settle a Parkhead and has had to take a step back to get more first-team action and rediscover his form.

Hutton is correct, the towering centre-half has seen just 11 minutes of first-team action this season with Neil Lennon preferring to play Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed out of position over Hendry when required, as clear an indication as any that a manager doesn’t fancy you.

Will Jack Hendry play for Celtic again?

He had been linked with a move to Hearts but surprising, opted for a move to the other side of the world which won’t do his international chances any good but should certainly help to restore his confidence which judging by his first performance – where he was named in the team of the week – is already well on the road to recovery.
