Simon Donnelly has encouraged the club to sign John McGinn from Hibs. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Parkhead consistently over the past few months after an excellent season in the Premiership.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the former Celtic forward queried why the Hoops didn`t try to sign the midfielder in the January transfer window. He also believes the 23-year-old would learn a lot playing alongside Broony:

‘I`m surprised that Celtic didn`t have a sniff at him in the January transfer window, and I wouldn`t be surprised if he ends up there. Scott Brown still has a lot to offer there, and with him retiring from Scotland, I can see him playing on there.’

There`s no doubt that the Scottish international has had a great campaign in his first season back in the top flight, but the sheer number of options we have available in the middle of the park, means we need to consider if the Hibs man really is an essential purchase.

I think we have greater concerns at the back to deal with in the summer, and there is also the goalkeeping situation to consider, unless Brendan considers Scott Bain the number one going forward and keeps him at the club.
