With the imminent arrival of Eddie Howe on the cards, it seems one of his first signings will be Bologna’s Aaron  Hickey. Hickey was a sensation when he broke through to Hearts first team back in season 2018/19 when he starred in a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

He also started the 2019 Scottish Cup Final defeat against Celtic becoming the youngest player to start a Scottish Cup Final since John Fleck in 2008.

Hickey then went on to make thirty appearances for the Jambos the following season and continued to impress visiting scouts and attracted attention from Celtic and Bayern Munich before deciding to make the £1.5m move to Italian side Bologna.

Hickey has made a limited amount of appearances for Bologna this season after making an impressive debut debut against Parma in a 4-1 win in which the Italian media lavished praise on the youngster. Gazzetta de la Sport described his performance as, “Debuted at 18 as if he’d always played here.  In the first half he showed personality and quality, a player who was bought for almost nothing.”

So far, Hickey has made a total of eleven appearances this season for his the Italians.

It is thought Celtic may have to shell out in excess of £4m to get their man as they continue to find the player to replace Kieran Tierney after a trying former Serie A left back Diego Laxalt on loan.  Laxalt has failed to impress and will return to his parent club, A.C. Milan at the end of the season.
