The fallout of last weekend’s Celtic vs Rangers match at Ibrox will roll into this week, with the SFA set to host summit talks this week in a bid to prevent a potential officiating crisis.

The Hoops were justifiably upset with the lack of retrospective action taken against Alfredo Morelos for three incidents involving Celtic players during the derby defeat, calling on referee John Beaton to explain his actions after the SFA confirmed he had seen each clash and decided not to take action.

Because he had witnessed the incidents, the SFA decided no further action could then be taken by the compliance officer.

However, The Daily Record report that the club are bemused by the SFA’s lack of consistency after Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna was banned
earlier this season despite the SFA admitting that referee Bobby Madden had seen his tackle on Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

That will lead to talks between the association and the Scottish champions this week as the two sides try to find a compromise.

Celtic have taken plenty of blame over the last week for piling pressure on referees, but it’s clear that the SFA’s ineptitude and hypocrisy is the problem here.

They’ve failed to take a consistent stance on any issue this season, also angering other clubs in the Scottish Premiership for bizarre decisions that seem to go against previous rulings.

Hopefully solutions can be found this week, as it’s clear the current situation cannot go on.
