When Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata was re-integrated into the Hoops squad at the start of the season, Brendan Rodgers wasn’t shy about the fact it was a short-term solution in terms of his club future.

His contract runs out at the end of the season and having refused bids for the player in the summer transfer window, it leaves the upcoming January window as the only opportunity to receive some cash for the Belgian international.

Latest reports suggest that the club are ‘ready to sell’ the player, with no progress being made on the renewal of his current deal at Celtic Park.

It’s becoming clear that he won’t be pulling on the hoops beyond next May at the latest.

However, should the club sell or should we let his contract expire?

Receiving justĀ  a few million quid might not make much sense if it scuppers Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the season. Lord knows we find it hard to bring IN quality centre-backs. His value in the transfer market will be limited given his contract situation.

Keeping him around would at least give us a stable defensive line heading into the final and crucial few months of the season. Boyata is our best defender and losing him could be a critical squad blow.

Should we actively try to sell Boyata or let his contract expire? Have your say in our poll below…
