Time is running out on Celtic to add the defensive strength they need to fire on all cylinders this season all eyes are on what moves the club could be making in the transfer market.

Plenty of names have come and gone over the past few months in terms of targets, leading to plenty of frustration from supporters who are desperate to see some depth added to Brendan Rodgers’ defensive line.

One former target that has yet to be linked this summer is Nedum Onuoha, the former Queens Park Rangers man who left the London club at the end of last season after refusing to sign a new contract.

The 31-year-old was linked with a move to Rodgers’ side way back in January 2017, with The Telegraph reporting that the Hoops were eager to do a deal for the player.

Able to play both in the middle and on the right side of defence, he could be the perfect type of signing for the Hoops this summer – an experienced professional who is first-team ready and can add depth to two positions that badly need it.

He’as made 188 English Premier League appearances in his career so far and 145 more in the English Championship. That experience is surely enough to at least give fans hope he has what it takes to make an impact at Celtic Park, even if his career at the top level is most likely done?

If Celtic are to make their move for him, they’ll have to move quick, with MLS side Real Salt Lake reported to be in talks with him last week.

Nothing has come of that over the weekend, so there may still be time and he’s an option that we’d be silly not to consider at the very least in the final few days of the window.

Ultimately his wage demands might rule out a switch to Glasgow, but perhaps Rodgers can convince him his footballing career in Britain isn’t over?
