Marian Shved arrived at Celtic Park in January 2019 with an enormous pedigree and potential to be a top star for the club.  Immediately after he penned a long term contract with The Bhoys, he was loaned back to Kerpaty Lviv where he won the Ukranian Premier League Player of the Month in March and scored fifteen goals in twenty six appearances for the Ukranian Premier League outift.

He returned to Celtic in the summer and scored on his debut in a 2-0 Champions League second round qualifying round win against Nomme Kalju FC.  After a solitary appearance in the Scottish Cup against Clyde and in the Premier League at home to Ross County in September 2019, Shved disappeared from the first team not to be seen again that season.

He was then loaned out again to Belgian side Mechelen this season where he has only made three substitute appearances and he has so far failed to impress at his new club.  Shved arrived in Belgium to real excitement from the Mechelen manager Wouter Vrancken where he was quoted as saying “Let’s be honest here, Marian Shved is an outstanding talent who would not normally choose to play for a club like Mechelen. We are very lucky to have him.”

Fast forward three months and Vrancken seems to have had enough of the wingers attitude, or lack of it. Vranken has said of the Ukranian,

He is introverted, but his arrogance makes it worse. There are many players in football who have not got the best out of their career, despite all their talents and the way Shved is going, this will happen to him too

Shved is a seriously talented player and it seems that since his move to Celtic the player thinks he has “made it” and no further effort is required. If this is the case, it seems Celtic will never  recoup the £2m they spent on the player just two years ago.
