“So now I don’t want to do that” – Reported Celtic target comments on future
During the January window, Celtic was heavily linked to South Korean striker Cho Guey-sung.
After his World Cup exploits, the 25-year-old was the subject of intense transfer speculation and it was thought that he would be Ange Postecoglou’s next big signing. Especially after the Giorgos Giakoumakis saga.
Eventually, Cho decided to stay at Jeonbuk Hyundai and there were rumours that maybe Celtic could possibly go back in for him in the summer.
Well, it seems now that story has been put to bed after the strikers latest interview in the Korean media.
Speaking to Naver, Cho said, “I think the idea of scoring goals is getting tougher on my body. The coaches keep telling me to pull it off, but it’s not easy.
“To be honest, I kept thinking, ‘I want to go to Europe,’ and ‘I have to do better to go to Europe.’
“But now that I think about it, that wasn’t my motto in life.
“I’ve come this far because I’ve just been working hard day by day, and I’m like, ‘Why am I doing this, what am I hoping for?’
“So now I don’t want to do that, I’m training, I’m playing, I’m training again tomorrow.
“I’m trying hard to live again day by day. I’ve been meditating and reading books, and now I’m feeling a little more at ease.”
There is no doubt that Celtic do need to strengthen in the striker position in the transfer window. Where Oh has shown potential so far this season, he clearly isn’t at the level of Kyogo not just in goalscoring terms, but also in what he brings to the team.
The summer will be an interesting time for the club as Ange does like to keep his cards close to his chest but with this news from Cho, doe we need to go back to the drawing board?
