Some say they can’t wait for the transfer window to close. Others, like me, love it. The constant rumour and the excitement of new players being linked to your club is what it’s all about.

But there is the other side of it. Your players being linked away.

Odsonne Edouard and Giorgos Giakoumakis have been the talk of the town these past few weeks and journalist Stephen McGowan has given an update on where he believes the club stands with respect to any deals taking place for the two strikers.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, McGowan said, “We’ve been talking for over a week about Giorgos Giakoumakis the VVV-Venlo striker who Celtic have been shown to be showing heavy interest in.

“But you wonder is that a contingency for a striker  going out?  If you look at it at the minute you have strikers. You have Ajeti, you have Edouard, you will still have Leigh Griffiths on the premises and of course Kyogo.

“So my instinct is that they will sign someone like Giakoumakis if Edouard goes. I think that’s why there is a contingency because someone has to go. I don’t know that, this only an instinct.

“There are clubs interested (in Edouard) but his wages are scaring them off.

“You’re still looking at Crystal Palace and Brighton, whether they can come up with the money, or whether he ends up staying until next summer, he’ll be leaving on a free.

“This is a big week for Celtic because they could potentially be running the risk of making no money at all.

“People close to Edouard are talking about it that he could go in a free transfer.

“Because if you’re Odsonne Edouard you might not be getting the kind of clubs coming in for you that you want, but if  you’re a free transfer you have a much bigger hand.”

I personally don’t believe the deal for Giorgos Giakoumakis depends on the sale of Edouard. At a reported £2.2m, the initial outlay is not a heavy one. It will all depend on the player and if he wants to ply his trade in Scotland after being rebuffed by Werder Bremen.

And as for Edouard? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
