Much has been said about the much maligned red zone at Celtic Park and the fact that away fans could not be housed until the COVID rule change came into play.

The Parkhead chiefs have been coming under fire recently because of the vasts amounts of empty seats at Parkhead where pundits and fans of other clubs alike claim the Hoops could have made allowances to let away fans in.

The most recent argument came  at Celtic’s home tie against Raith Rovers in the Premier Sports Cup.

The only fans that have been allowed entry into Celtic Park this season has been the visiting Bayer Leverkusen supporters for the Europa League tie as UEFA’s COVID rules are more relaxed than SPFL’s.

Taking to twitter, Stephen McGowan revealed that things are about to change immediately for Scottish clubs, “Scottish football returning to normal with the scrapping of mandatory matchday red zones by the Joint Response Group.

“Clubs will now be permitted to relax rules on away fans, hospitality areas, training grounds and travel based on their own risk assessments.”

Which is great news. I, for one, am delighted at.

The removal of away fans has taken some of the spark out of domestic football and you could see from the Hoops tie against Leverkusen the sense of occasion having away supporters at the ground brings.

McGowan says the rules are to be relaxed ‘immediately’ so this would see the welcome return of away fans to Paradise right after the international break.
