It was a disaster of a first half. Two goals down, no defensive shape and no final penetration at the other end of the pitch, Gordon Strachan speaking on Premier Sports half time analysis, had an amazing rant at Celtic’s central defender, Kristoffer Ajer, as Strachan believed he was to blame for Rangers second goal.
Full back, Diego Laxalt, seemed to be at fault for both Hoops goals as the men from Ibrox exposed him time and again in a torrid first half, but Strachan had an amazing pop at Ajer and blamed the big Norwegian for leaving Laxalt exposed for Aribo to run into the danger area, “Listen, do you know as the ball was passed through wide to Aribo? Ajer is closer! Why does Ajer go back the way? He should go out and engage him, he’s quicker.
“Laxalt was pointing to him saying, ‘You get him and I’ll fill your space”. But Ajer just went ‘I’ll go back’. Ajer is quicker and stronger.”

Strachan wasn’t far wrong but Laxalt’s defending had been poor all first half and didn’t cover himself in glory when it comes to tackling and closing down the opposing teams attacking wide men.
Strachan couldn’t hide his anger at the big central defender and was clearly fuming at a basic defensive mistake that will cost Celtic their last piece of silverware this season.
