Striker Anthony Stokes has been suspended by Celtic due to a number of factors, according to manager Ronny Deila.

“It’s been some issues in the past and now we felt we had to put down a marker” – Ronny Deila

The latest of those was an outburst on social media after being left out of their squad for the recent trip to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Stokes, 27, was subsequently handed a two-week ban by the club having previously featured for them only twice this season.

“I think everybody understands it’s not about that single [incident],” Deila told BBC Scotland. “It’s been some issues in the past and now we felt we had to put down a marker and I think that’s going to be good in the end for us and for Anthony.

“After 14 days he will come back and hopefully we can keep him working,” he continued. “I won’t go into the other issues. That’s between me and him and the club.”
