Celtic’s relentless playing style now seems to be seeping into their transfer activity as the club seeks to add further new faces to the squad before the transfer deadline closes on the 31st August.

Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, gave a transfer update this afternoon on where the club is at in looking to sign players at the pre match press conference ahead of tomorrows home tie against St Mirren and said that his focus on more signings from the J League will be put on hold until January, “I’ve been looking at it very closely.

There’s a lot of players I’d love to take a look at closely and bring over but I know it’ll almost be impossible to get them out right now”.

Prominent J League journalist Dan Orlowitz took to Twitter to explain exactly why Postecoglou has made that decision, “I hope this will put a brief pause on inquiries I get about whether Celtic aiming for more J.Leaguers… remember that we’ve got 14 rounds left in the J1, late cup rounds & continental knockouts still to come.

“Very hard to talk clubs out of their marquee players at this point.

“(Not saying it can’t happen, but of 12 U24 J.Leaguers at Olympics, 3 have signed w/ European clubs this summer and I don’t think more than maybe 1 or 2 of those remaining are quite ripe enough to be picked before the offseason)”

However, a report in The Daily Record says Celtic are edging closer to the signing of Greek striker Georgios Giakoumakis as talks continue to conclude a £2.2m deal to bring the 26 goal hitman to Paradise this summer.

Giakoumakis is entering the final year of his contract but is also attracting the attention of German Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

The Celtic fans will certainly be hoping the Hoops pull of the signing of the VVV Venlo frontman as they expect Odsonne Edouard to leave the club this summer.
