“Test Of Character” – Lennon Ramps Up The Mind Games After Disappointing Celtic Defeat

|

Celtic were looking to keep the advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership table as we played the final game of 2019 and went into the winter break by welcoming Rangers to Celtic Park.

The game predictably had plenty of talking points and with a missed penalty in particular, we should’ve come out of the tie with at least a point, however, revenge was on their minds and they unfortunately took it with a 2-1 win.

There’s plenty of minutes to be played though and although Rangers have given themselves a potential one point lead if they win their game in hand, in some ways it helps pile the pressure more on them now.

That certainly seemed to be manager Neil Lennon’s outlook on things as he spoke to Sky Sports following the game.

“We didn’t deserve to lose it, we didn’t deserve to win it. The second goal was poor, a free header in our box. You are chasing the game, we had some good chances, one off the line, we missed a penalty and they are big moments. But overall, we didn’t play well enough. There is a break for three weeks now. It just means it is game on.”

He added.

“If Rangers win their game in hand they will have a one-point cushion. There is nothing in it. It’s a test of character now which is good. It is not the time to be over-critical. We have lost the game but there is plenty to play for and we have time to think on it.”

Take the well deserved break now, dust down after this game knowing the scoreline could’ve easily been different even if we weren’t actually that great and then we see what twists and turns remain.
