It wasn’t so long ago that Celtic fans were talking of getting £30m plus for their star striker Odsonne Edouard. The young Frenchman was a revelation at Celtic Park and was scoring freely and taking out defenders with deft touches and little drops of the shoulder.

He was a joy to watch. Until last season.

Clearly his head was turned and his performances dipped and as he enters into the last year of his contract, Celtic are now looking at receiving a significantly less fee than they had hoped.

Speaking on the PLZ Football Show a few days ago, Vital Celtic reported that Charlie Adam had made a prediction that Edouard would go for as little as £5m, “What are you gonna get for him now? Because his performances since he’s come back are not going to get you double figures. So what do they get? £5m for him and take it from there?”

It was a prediction met by derision by the Celtic fans, my own site and other Celtic fan media sites.

On todays edition of the PLZ Football Show, Adam doubled down and rallied on his previous prediction and clearly the criticism he received from certain Celtic quarters was still stinging as he seemed to insinuate he didn’t care what the fans thought, whilst caring what the fans thought, “If you’re not performing at your level. You’re still going to get five to eight million for Edouard. It’s still not gonna be double figures so the Celtic fans can try and come for me again.”

Adam clearly doesn’t want to admit that his £5m valuation of Edouard was deranged and even though he is entering into his last year of his contract, £5m wouldn’t buy you his left leg.

But hey, only time will tell and I certainly won’t be gloating when the cheques for nigh on £20m hits Celtic’s letterbox.
