Well there really is nothing like a bit of comparison pressure when you’re just starting out your Celtic career is there?

The Hoops have been searching for almost three years now for a left back to replace the incredible enigma that was Kieran Tierney.

Since his £25m move to Arsenal, Celtic have tried, and failed, to successfully replace the marauding left sided defender.

Although Greg Taylor has equipped himself well in the position, the fact he was signed after two weeks after the departure of Tierney, the boy never stood a chance as fans and media automatically made comparisons between the two.

However, speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, journalist Mark Guidi reckons that the Hoops have a Tierney-esque replacement already in the ranks.

The radio pundit says he should be given the chance to stake his claim now that Taylor is injured, “At the moment I would go with Montgomery at left back. I would give him a run.

“I really like to look of Montgomery.. Yeah, you’ll be raw. Yeah, he will make mistakes, but he really looks the part.

“So, I would put the new back four together, including Montgomery, and go with. Give it a chance. Give it a chance to go.

“Montgomery is the closest thing to Kieran Tierney Celtic have had.

“There will never be another Kieran Tierney. He was exceptional. That’s why he left for £25 million. And you’ll never replaced like with like. That’s impossible.

“I like Greg Taylor, I really do. But at the moment he’s not available. Give it to Montgomery. give it to him. He’s a natural left sided player.

“I thought he looked good when he came on against Rangers at Ibrox.  He has that natural left sided play.

“He can go forward, he can put across in.Give the boy a chance.”

Montgomery has impressed and since being thrown in at the deep end against AZ Alkmaar, the youngster has shown a maturity and calmness beyond his years.
