Today for Celtic, St Johnstone, Hibs,  and Aberdeen supporters was a day of excitement. The European draw meant that all Scottish representation in this round of the competition find out who they will face.

Celtic in the Champions League draw. St Johnstone in the Europa League draw.  Hibs and Aberdeen in the Europa Conference League draw.

It’s a simple context and one that should EASILY be reported on.

Except for the Daily Record.

Instead of bigging up one the country’s representative in the Champions League and looking forward to who Celtic could face in the next round of the qualifiers, The Daily Record decided to tweet a story on who Celtic will face if the fail to make it past Midtjylland.

Nothing about who they could face if the Hoops progress past the Danes. All about the failure. Not a peep about the possibility of Celtic’s upcoming Champions League draw.  Nothing

And this is the reason why many Celtic fans simply do not trust or buy anything from the Scottish mainstream media.

The typically negative slant put on the club at almost every turn makes even reading them boil my p…….blood.

But then I need to as part of this job. And I suppose every job has it’s pitfalls.

There is a reason that since 2005, The Daily Record’s circulation has dropped from over 454,000 copies per month to just over 85,000 in January 2021.

People simply don’t trust the media for balanced coverage anymore.

More and more people are turning to fan media for proper news and views about their clubs and avoiding the red tops of Scotland.

If only they learned their lessons from years past mistakes on why the public don’t trust them anymore and are switching off. If only, but they won’t.
