The fallout continues – Celtic star doesn’t miss with his latest dig at Rangers

|

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has criticised Steven Gerrard’s Rangers for not accepting their defeat on Sunday with humility, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The Celtic squad – and Scott Brown in particular – have been heavily criticised for goading during the match and celebrating the massive derby victory, something that provoked furious and out of order reactions from players such as Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Andy Halliday.

McGregor though feels his Celtic teammates have done nothing wrong, pointing the finger at the Ibrox side for not being able to accept the loss.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Hoops midfielder said:

There’s been a lot said about it, but as a football player, and especially playing in a Celtic v Rangers game, you are entitled to celebrate.

I don’t think anything was over the top. John Kennedy mentioned the other day that the game actually finished over in that corner. Nobody ran to anywhere else in the stadium.

I think if you look back at the December game, Rangers deserved to win it and they celebrated on the pitch just as much as we did on Sunday. But the difference is we took it. We just put our heads down, we took our medicine and we got up the tunnel.

So in terms of that, the conduct of the Rangers players maybe was not great.

That’s up to Rangers, the way they want to conduct themselves. We always try and do it with humility.

The over the top media reaction to Sunday’s match has been almost beyond parody levels, with everyone working themselves into a lather about footballers having the gall to wind-up opponents and celebrate big victories.

McGregor is right to remind everyone that the Celtic players didn’t actually do anything wrong.

Rangers, and Rangers-supporting pundits, simply can’t accept that great success is again on its way to Celtic Park this season with a double in the bag and treble on the horizon.

They need to get used to it.
