“The Record resembles The Beano” – Celtic fans react to yet another negative story

Negativity seems to have followed this newspaper around this week when it came to Celtic stories.

From Charlie Nicholas to the the stupid European coefficient stories, is has been a week for The Daily Record.

Take their latest offering for instance.

The Riley McGree ‘snub’.

There was no snub.

Ange addressed it himself when he said, “Riley McGree was somebody we had an interest in, because of my association with him.

“Obviously I know the player very well.

“But after initial discussions, he’s decided to look elsewhere, which is fine.”

A mutual discussion that ended in a player deciding to pursue a career elsewhere is hardly a snub.

No contract was rejected in favour of another club. No offer knocked back. Nothing.

But it was this same newspaper that reported the signing as fact on the 10th January so I suppose they had to save face somewhere with this drivel.

And the Celtic fans reacted to it:

Joe MacEachen:  “The Record resembles The Beano with each passing day or maybe I am insulting The Beano here.”

Paul Rooney:  “The Scottish meeja tried to make a big thing of this at the time.

“The fact that Celtic didn’t even blink when they were “snubbed” (by a loser who can’t get a game for a team struggling to get to a playoff spot in the English Championship) is there for all to see.

“A few days later, we signed O’Riley – a great player who has played well for us. And came a lot cheaper than McGree would have.

“His two reasons seem to be to play in the EPL (which is very unlikely to happen any time soon) and giving himself a better chance to get into the Australian World Cup squad.

“I don’t think playing for Celtic has ever done Tom Rogic any harm in that regard. So let’s hear the real reason. He wanted more money. And that, to me, is fair enough. I just wish he’d be honest about it.”

Amina Kloskina:  “Would probably have been easier to get to the EPL from Celtic, but who cares? Water under the bridge, ended up with a better player out of it.”

Lloyd Glen: “This falls in to the rich tradition of poorly written Record articles, which I believe underpins the journalistic integrity of the publication. Free falling readership versus poorly written articles…? who’d have thought it….?”

Nicky McManus:  “His loss! Think Celtic were the winners out of it by signing O’Riley instead.”

Honestly who cares what a red top paper prints!?

Their job is to ‘create’ headlines daily, so naturally they’re going to print provocative nonsense as it keeps them in a job!

I stopped buying them years ago, haven’t watched tv in years, and am a lot more content in life by not having my emotions toyed with nor my head filled with someone elses antagonistic projections on a daily basis!
