This was a mental story that broke last Thursday. Two guys going to work and being told they can’t do their job because they are a security risk.

Who are they and where are they working?

Members of the Al Qaeda trying to gain access to an American air base in Afghanistan?

Nah. Just Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon trying to get into Ibrox to talk football.

Crazy right? Well not as crazy as the Rangers Managing Director, Stewart Robertson, claiming two (Almost?) fifty year old men were security risks against 50,000 Rangers fans.

One journalist that claims it was a load of nonsense is veteran  Neil Cameron. Thirty years in the business and a well known Celtic supporter, Cameron lifts the lid on his times at Ibrox covering football and it was as mundane as watching paint dry.

Speaking on the Not The Old Firm podcast, Cameron recounted, “There was no security risk. Honestly. You might have got a bit of hassle. That’s literally saying, ‘You’re right. People that go to Ibrox cannot be trusted not to commit a crime.’

“Listen, I’m a Celtic supporter. So big, bad Rangers are easy to have a go at. But I have to see more, most of my bluenose mates, if not all of them, have never been done for violence or are in prison.

“Occasionally you would get recognised. I’m never treated, anything except a, ‘Hiya, how you doin?’ I sit at the same bit at Ibrox all the time, particularly in my Herald days.

“Because I hate to tell all these Rangers haters out there. See most people that go to Ibrox are just blokes like us.  They just go to watch their team and cheer and go home.

“It would be a much more important story if we genuinely thought  that either Neil Lennon Chris Sutton would be attacked.

“It’s also also untrue to say that, they’d probably have to arrive early and have a security guard because unfortunately that’s the way that bit of the world in Glasgow is.

“Every time I went to that club. I could never, ever, ever got an ounce of trouble.”
