“There’s only one legend at this club” – Humble Broony pays tribute to Caeser

|

The end of an era. The greatest captain since Billy McNeill, Scott Brown has been a magnificent servant to Celtic Football Club and his achievements will never be matched again. At least in my lifetime.

When speaking to Celtic FC website on his penultimate interview, Brown was read a statement from the legendary Billy McNeill’s family as they paid tribute to our Captain, Leader and Legend.

Brown, clearly emotional, was extremely humble and played down his legendary status to pay tribute to Caeser, The Lisbon Lions and other famous and historical Celtic stars, “No that’s much appreciated, but there’s only one legend at this club (Billy McNeill). To be fair, all the Lisbon Lions were as well. John Clark is still here as well. It’s great to speak to him and get his stories.

“It’s great to have that that bond with all the older players that have been at the club and it’s people like Tosh McKinlay and Boydy that do the ambassador role at the club as well.

WHY ARE YOU ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS?

WHY ARE YOU ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS?

“They’re here and speak highly of the club. You need people like that to make sure that this club’s successful and to go around to speak to the fans and that’s what they do.

“Billy done that brilliantly as well when he was here.  He went around he made sure he had time for everybody and he was some size of a man.  And when he used to grab your hand in the morning  to shake it, you’re like, ‘Okay Billy.  Thanks very much‘ and he was just a great character. It’s sad that he’s away but what he’s done for this football club will always be remembered.”

In typical Broony fashion, he deflected the limelight away from himself and praised those around him. And even when his achievements where being spoke about, Broony played down his role like a gentleman with modesty and humility.

No matter what Brown says. He will always be our Captain. Our Leader. Our Legend.
