As cup semi final day will be on the forefront of every Celtic fans mind today, John Hartson was looking forward to the January transfer window on The Go Radio Football Show.

The panel were discussing the Ange Postecoglou’s power at the club after Wednesday’s AGM and Hartson reckons that the Celtic gaffer wields a lot of influence in the Parkhead corridors.

The former Celtic striker not only thinks that Ange has say over all footballing matters, but will have massive influence over the board when it comes to the signing policy.

Speaking candidly, Hartson said, “Celtic will have recruitment people obviously looking all over.

“They will be getting DVDs and videos and from scouts every single day. They’ll be looking at different players.

“They have to be because they have to be aware of what’s out there. Celtic being the global club that it is. And he can look at these players but if he doesn’t see them players coming in and being the right fit, then he wants to be the man to say ‘Look, I’m not quite sure about that one.’

“There’s talk about another Japanese striker coming in. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got that one over the line in January.”

Clearly it seems Hartson was speaking about long term target Daizen Maeda and if this true, what a coup this would be for Postecoglou.

Pairing Maeda with Kyogo up front would be something special and, if the board play this smart, could go a long way to help build some bridges between them and the support.

But we all know the board don’t do smart.
