After a miserable weekend after dropping a further two points at Celtic Park, there was an exciting transfer update that may have gone under the radar and was missed by the Celtic supporters.

With so much transfer speculation surrounding the club already, probably the biggest story is the Daizen Maeda to Celtic rumour.

And to be fair, this is a story that has been running for months now.

Vital Celtic first reported this way back in July when Japan based journalist Dan Orlowitz , first rolled out that Maeda is a player that the Celtic boss should be looking at and so far, it seems that this is a move that could happen this January.

Speaking in a Q&A, The Athletic’s reporter Kieran Devlin, was asked if the Maeda links to Celtic have any foundation and his reply was stark and to the point,”They are credible (links to Maeda), yes. Unless something dramatic happens that will need addressing.”

Maeda is hot property in Japan and has been likened by others as a Kyogo type player. Celtic podcasters Celtic Down Under’s Japan based contributor Liam said of Maeda,  “The thing about Maeda is that I’ve seen him play all across the front three.

“So he’s not necessarily going to come in and be a left winger or through the middle type player.”

So like Kyogo, he is versatile, but unlike Kyogo, he is strong across all areas of the front three where Kyogo is only strongest through the middle.

After Saturday’s display, there is one thing that is sure, Celtic do need a different option up front and it seems that Maeda could be the one that fits that bill.
