The Daily Record broke some rather amusing news earlier on – Rangers can’t get a deal over the line for Martin Skrtel because they cannot afford him.

Oh, what a shock.

For a good week or so now we’ve been hearing from them about how Steven Gerrard is going to bring some of his contacts in and that the Gers are going to splash the cash and now look, it’s going to the wall already.

Will they ever learn to go for targets they can actually afford? Probably not, and in that case they’d better start preparing for the worst again.

What can you say about this news really?

It was never looking likely when you consider the wages the defender must be on and I’d imagine about now Gerrard is getting a better idea of what budget he’s actually got in front of him.

There’s certainly a real element of deja vu about this.
