On the anniversary of the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, Stan Petrov was speaking to the pundits on The Go Radio Football Show about his part in that legendary team and the occasion of one of the most historic days in Celtic’s history.

After reminiscing about how he was given the task of man marking Steven Gerrard at Anfield in the 2-0 win (which he did magnificently), Petrov was then asked what he thought about Eddie Howe being named as the possible new manager of the Hoops by host Paul Cooney.

Petrov was very enthusiastic when he replied, “We need to see an appointment very soon. The new season is around the corner. We would like to see a bit of clarity, maybe somebody who is willing to change things in a different way, and then we can move on. I

“I’m actually excited I’m actually looking forward to see what Celtic Football Club will offer, going forward, to challenge Rangers next year, who is going to be the new manager, new signings, this this excites me”

Petrov was an absolute stalwart in a midfield trio of himself, Paul Lambert and Neil Lennon in an astonishing European campaign that saw the Hoops dispatch teams like Liverpool, Blackburn, Stuttgart and Boavista.

With Bournemouth now out of the reckoning of the English Premier League playoffs after their elimination this afternoon by Brentford, Petrov’s excitement at the season ahead with Howe as the manager may now become a reality with no more excuses left for the board to delay the appointment any longer.
