“Those sort of comments don’t look particularly clever” – Kris Commons blasts Postecoglou’s post match interview

There’s not much Ange Postecoglou got wrong in his post match interview yesterday.

We never took our chances? Correct.

Tightly contested match? Correct again.

So what was it that irked former Celtic Kris Commons so?

Well, it was Ange’s pre match comments regarding the extra rest the Celtic players had supposedly had last week before the cup match.

Speaking in his column [via Football Scotland], Commons said, “They just never got going at all. There was no spark and they certainly didn’t look like a team who were fresh coming into this game on the back of an eight-day break.

“Ange Postecoglou was asked about that in his pre-match interview and whether he felt the extra rest period would be beneficial.

“His answer was basically along the lines of there being no such thing as a rest period. He insisted that the players had been worked hard physically in training during the week.

“Those sort of comments don’t look particularly clever when you’ve got Cameron Carter-Vickers literally unable to run in extra-time, with other players also cramping up.”

Ange is well known for his honest and frank interviews and that one was no different to any other.

He works his players hard and up until yesterday, we have been bearing the fruit of that hard work since September, where the team have been unbeaten in all domestic competitions up until now.

To start to question Postecoglou’s training now, after one defeat, is rather churlish when pundits like Commons have been praising the team over the last few months with not a single mention of players fitness.

It’s amazing how hysterical some people get after one defeat.
