Celtic fans appear to want Brendan Rodgers to find a replacement for Swedish right-back Mikael Lustig this summer, despite the defender having an impressive World Cup with Sweden.

Is it time to say goodbye to the long serving right-back?

Lustig was suspended for Sweden’s loss to England in the quarter-finals of the competition on Saturday but had played all but eight minute of his country’s World Cup campaign up to that point.

With the Swedes now out, the right-back will be given two week’s rest before returning to the Celtic first team squad, but it seems that some supporters would prefer he was not a trusted pick in Rodgers’ starting eleven going forward.

The 31-year-old has made over 220 appearances for the Hoops, winning multiple trophies, but last season drew criticism for ineffective performances on the right flank, neither looking like he had the defensive solidity Celtic need, nor the ambitious attacking play.

For many his time is up, with 62% of respondents to a poll we published last week feeling he needs replaced this season.

Can the club go out and sign a player of quality that will give him real competition?
