The weekends football was largely marred by the upsetting, but unsurprising, scenes of Rangers fans marching through Glasgow City Centre spewing their sectarian and racist bile onto those unfortunate enough to hear it.

What is it about these fans that they feel the need to march through the city at every given opportunity? It’s a weird concept that smacks of self entitlement.

However, that is a side issue here. The main problem here is the anti Irish/racist singing and chanting in a week were the fans were under the spotlight for their racist abuse of Kyogo Furuhashi.

We are constantly told that this is a ‘minority’ of fans that is doing this. But in a day where one reporter at the stadium tweeted condemnation (then subsequently decided to clarify it with a follow up tweet, which is now deleted) for what she described as “bile” being poured out from the stands holding 50,000 of their supporters, it’s time this minority myth was put to bed and called out.

Tome English tweeted about the scenes in Glasgow last night with a simple message from those fans, “Scotland’s my home now lads, if it’s all the same to you. Why don’t you clear off instead, eh?”

And it was met with a surprisingly mixed reaction by the twitter masses.  Which is in complete contrast to when Michael Stewart decided to lambast them on his twitter feed.

Now I get it. I understand peoples frustration at the media’s blanket whitewash of racist and sectarian issues that has affecting generations of their society for decades and some wonder why are they calling it out now?

But isn’t the point that at least it is happening now? At least some are taking to their public platform and having their say on it?

If you look at the replies to English’s tweet you will see the reaction but my own personal opinion is that those replies that are borderline abusive, or are abusive, do not help.

They only stoke the flames of division.
