The story of the week, without doubt, was the reported claims of the fee that Celtic would be expected to pay for Cameron Carter Vickers.

It was widely believed that the Hoops would have been expected to stump up £5m at the end of the loan deal but a report in the Daily Record seemed to suggest that the fee could be DOUBLE that.

But Sky Sports pundit, Danny Mills, reckons that, that price tag is unlikely and if Celtic stuck to their guns, Spurs would likely accept £5m.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said, “If they sent him back and said ‘Actually, we’ll give you £5million’. Would Tottenham say no? Unlikely.

“It also depends on what other options they have and of course, what the player wants to do. Does he want to be there?

“It’s always a difficult one. There’s always that balance of wanting to play and getting paid what you think you deserve.

“Does he think he can go somewhere else? Is he happy to stay?

“Did he see it as a loan as a stepping stone or did he see himself up in Scotland for three or four years? There’s a lot that goes into it.”

Carter Vickers has seemed very settled in Ange Postecoglou’s side and has enjoyed a long spell as first team pick in the heart of the best defence in Scotland.

Time will tell if if he has the desire to settle long term in Scotland, but early indications are that he could see Celtic as a home after carving a career as a loan journeyman.
