Former Celtic captain Tom Boyd had stern words for referee Bobby Madden after his awful decision not to penalise Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna for a challenge on Odsonne Edouard on Saturday.

The Hoops were facing off against the Dons in Scottish Premiership action at Celtic Park and one of the biggest talking points coming out of the 1-0 home win was Madden’s performance as the match official.

Bearing down on the Aberdeen box, Edouard was scythed down by McKenna with a challenge that was not only dangerous but left the Frenchman unable to finish the 90 minutes, being substituted off injured shortly afterwards.

Despite that, Madden failed to take any action whatsoever, something that enraged Boyd during his commentary for Celtic TV, which you can see in the clip below.

His feeling that Madden should be ‘absolutely ashamed’ of performance is something that has certainly been echoed by many supporters in the aftermath of the match.

Thankfully the injury to Edouard doesn’t look to be exceptionally serious and Celtic went on to win the match, but the referee and his colleagues were dire all day.

How many days with Madden must we endure before someone takes a closer look?
