For one minute last night football took a backseat at Celtic Park as almost 60,000 supporters offered their heartfelt support to striker Leigh Griffiths.

It was revealed this week that the Scotland international would be taking a break from football to deal with ongoing issues off the field, with manager Brendan Rodgers speaking at length about how the player has the support of the club, his teammates and supporters.

In the ninth minute of Celtic’s clash against Salzburg, referencing the number Griffiths wears on the back of his shirt, fans made their feelings for the player clear with a rousing chorus of ‘Super Leigh Griffiths’, which you can see below.

Earlier in the day, the man himself had responded to all the support he’d received in the wake of the news breaking.

As quoted by BBC Scotland, the striker said: “I just wanted to thank everyone at the club and so many Celtic fans and other people who have sent me such kind and powerful messages of support. I’m doing all I can to come back as soon as possible a better and stronger person.”

It goes without saying that every fan wants to see Griffiths get the help he needs but it was nice to see such a public show of support for the fan favourite at Celtic Park, something that hopefully comforted the 28-year-old.
