Manager Brendan Rodgers concedes that Zenit St Petersburg probably start as favourites against Celtic in the Europa League.

That’s despite the Hoops’ round of 32 opponents not being in competitive action since mid-December due to an extended winter break.

Meanwhile, the Scots have continued to play regularly after returning from their own seasonal lay-off on 20th January.

“I think in terms of the standings of both teams in Europe right now, it would be fair to say that [Zenit are favourites],” Rodgers told BBC Scotland. “We have to be realistic – we know where we are.

“You could look at it the other way and say they could be fresher [with the break],” he continued. “They’ve been off for a period of time, but they’ve been working and have played a number of games. And the nature of the competition means it’s going to very difficult for us. But it’s a really exciting challenge.”
