“We don’t have primary targets” – Is Ange ready to pull the plug on transfer target?

The transfer of Vinicius Souza is starting to turn into some sort of saga now.

With the Scottish media reports claiming that he is set to sign for PSV being rubbished by the players agent, it does seem to me as if the player or his representatives are trying to drum up media speculation in order to get the Brazilian his big move.

Which I don’t have a problem with. But he is making a grave mistake.

If Souza doesn’t really understand just how big Celtic is, maybe it’s time to cut ties and move on.

And that was the general feeling I got from this interview with Ange Postecoglou.

As cited by Football Scotland, Ange said about new signings, “I’ve always said for me there’s got to be certain things that come together for a deal to be done.

“There’s a lot of good players out there. But are they a good fit for our football club?

*NEW* Who am I? How good is your Celtic player knowledge?

“Do they want to be at our football club? If any way along this way I get a sense that doesn’t happen then we’re happy to move on to the next one.

“We don’t have primary targets. We know what we need and we’ve identified some players who potentially could fit in that mould.

“But like I said, we won’t go into that final stage with anyone else at the moment until I’m convinced they’re coming to the football club for the right reasons.”

‘For the right reasons’.

We all know what they are. Ange only wants players who want to play for Celtic.

Not because of Champions League football.

To play for the jersey.

And I get the sense from the tone of the interview that the Celtic gaffer could be about to pull the plug on this deal if Souza doesn’t make his mind up.

And soon.
